Built by Liver & Wilding Ltd of Fleetwood, Lancs in 1904 for Pilot Wm Prosser out of Newport. The pilots went north for the faster designs than the West Country built cutters Alpha Is a very fine example with her reduced fwd draft, very long run, straight stem and superb short counter stern. Planked In pitch-pine with some recent renewal In larch on the port side fastened with iron dumps' to grown oak frames on an oak back-bone. Approx 2 1/4 ton iron and concrete ballast + 2 1/2 ton lead, all Internal. Steel keel shoe. Decked in 1 3/4”-1/4-sawn Douglas fir on 3/4” ply sub-deck between varnished cover-boards. 12” bulwark all round, varnished Internally on new stanchions with varnished capping nail over. Original deep, varnished cock-pit with high coamings couple to entrance hatch. Clear, spacious deck, fore hatch & massive b'sprit bitts.
