Gaff Yawl ref:112
Gaff Yawl. UK flag £ 46,000 Length on deck 40' +8' bowsprit + 3' bumpkin. Length water-line 32'6" Beam 9'3" Draft 6' Built by E. L. Woods for Mr. Sutcliffe who was a friend of Albert Strange & a great admirer of his work. Indeed it is almost certain that Sutcliffe was involved in the design of the yacht. The design is attributed of course to Albert Strange & has all the hallmarks of the great man's work. Woods was a builder from Norfolk, close to Sutcliffe's home & built Charm 11 in 1925. This was the second yacht he built for Sutcliffe, a wealthy timber merchant, the first being Charm, a similar design of 32' built in 1921. The design features a lovely sweeping bow describing a fair curve from stem-head to meet the keel approx under the main mast. She has the most graceful yet strong counter, not so long as to slam in a sea but giving sweet line & a good after deck to carrymizzen rigging etc. She has good free-board for a yacht of her size & an attractive sheer line.Engine.
