Laurent Giles design built by Newmans of Poole in 1949. Teak planked below wl, Honduras mahogany above all copper fastened to oak timbers., hood ends refastened with silicon bronze screws ‘95. Lead keel.Sheerstrakes, coverboards, toe-rail and cappings all replaced 1997 with new fore hatch.
Usual Vertue rig with optional sloop/cutter, double spreaders, inner fore stay to upper spreaders on over-centre release lever, twin back-stays and runners on levers. Hollow spruce stepped on coach-roof. 3-slab reef varnished boom., spinnaker pole. S/s rigging, much replaced recently. Triple stitched main, masthead jib, staysl, storm jib and genoa all by Gowans 1995/6.+ older suit of sails.
Yanmar 1GM 10hp 1-cyl 1989 diesel engine gives 5.5knts through 3-blade centre line prop, single lever cntrols.. 1997 fuel tank. and pipe-work. 1998 cutlass bearing. Engine overhaul 1998. 2 x 12v batteries with 1998 alternator and switch panell.
Extended coach-roof model gives good interior volume with full hed-room under the dog-house & saloon. Fore peak with centre-line sea toilet under fore hatch, stbd fixed berth with cushions to make up a double berth, locker and shelves to port. Bulkhead to saloon cabin with port & stbd settee berths, trotter boxes fwd, shelves behind, gimbled table between. 16 gall water tank under sole.Stbd quarter berth with folding chart table over. Galley to port with sink and brass tap.2 burner, grill & oven gas cooker.. Stowage. Attractive tile-inlaid cupboard doors. All original mahogany joinery.
Compass, sounder, log, VHF, Autopilot, Navtex. 2 anchors, chain and warp etc. Carefully up-dated and refitted in present 5 year ownership. Cruised UK waters, Norway and Holland. A very clean example.
